Johnson & Johnson and Duragesic - When Will the Dangers End?
As reported by me many times over the past few years, my firm has been working on hundreds of Duragesic pain patch wrongful death cases. The cases involve leaking and defective patches manufactured by Johnson & Johnson's subsidiaries, ALZA and Janssen Pharmaceutica. Twice our firm successfully helped victims' families achieve a measure of justice, via a jury trial, for the loss of one of their loved ones due to the malfunction of a Duragesic patch. In both of those cases, one in Federal Court, the other in state court, the juries awarded multiple millions of dollars to the surviving family members and held Johnson & Johnson, ALZA, and Jannsen liable for the damages.
Perhaps when the Obama administration finally takes the reins at the FDA, we will see public safety and protection rise to the priority it once held and so richly deserves. Neither of my firm's jury verdicts, one for $16.5 million and one for $5.5 million were flukes, they were claims made before juries who decided that defectively manufactured Duragesic fentanyl pain patches were a matter for public protection and in the end held Johnson & Johnson, ALZA, and Jannsen to be negligent. For my money, those companies are simply being unscrupulous.
The new FDA Chairperson needs to seriously consider pulling fentanyl pain patches completely off of the market. Then get a letter fired off to your Congressman telling them you believe that defective fentanyl patches should not be available via a simple prescription for the drug currently being sold by Johnson & Johnson's subsidiaries and several generic manufacturers. Don't wait, far too many people have died from fentanyl overdoses through no fault of their own. This is a matter of public protection. Spread the word.

I understand that some families suffered with Duragesic but millions of families suffer from something else. It's not a perfect world and people die from other drugs everday and some people abuse drugs which is their fault or mix drugs like Michael Jackson but it's not the companies or the doctors fault. We all know what we can and can't handle.
I've been on Duragesic for about 10 years and I'm 34 years old. There are millions of people who feel the same way and when a patch leaks you notice that you're wet right away and you through it out. The problem is that they give this drug to really old people that should not be taking this drug and they would probably die regardless because they are sick and the whole point is to have 15 years of pain free life than have 30 years of pain.
I think you should be ashamed of yourself for going after this drug because without it I wouldn't have a life. This drug saved my life because I can't take pills so if this drug gets off the market, millions of people would be in pain.
The problem here is that you don't have chronic pain that can literally ruin your life to the point that you are willing to have a few more happy years of a pain free life with your wife and kids by taking this drug..
I believe in Karma and I know that if you ever do manage to ruin millions of lives by taking this drug away from us, you will one day have chronic pain so bad that you will know deep down that it was you who was in charge of getting rid of the only drug that could have helped you.
I would bet you my life that those few people that died would tell you themselves that the pain was so bad that if they had to do it again they would.
You should understand those in real physical pain before you go on a crusade. Also, those families making the big deal that they lost their 80 year old family members and got 10 million dollars in court should also shut their mouths because they also don't know real chronic pain.
I understand that the company should step up and make sure these accidents don't happen and I'm all for sueing the companies because they were careless but that is a huge difference than getting rid of the drug completely and destroying the people that the drug saves.
In a huge society there is always going to be in every drug a few that die and most are old people that already lived their lives.
So please leave this fight and do more research on the people it help and think about what you would do if you were in pain all day.
Chronic pain is like hell on earth and I don't think people realize that until it happens to them. When you're in pain you can drive, you can't sleep, you can't go out, you can't have sex, you can't fall in love, you can't read, you can't be happy because your mind is only focused on the pain.
I hope this helps you realize that you are wrong for being so extreme. Every drug has it's ups and downs and the few that either abuse it or just use it very stupidly should ruin it and punish everyone else.
If I die on Duragesic I would never want someone to try and bring this drug down. I am already grateful that it gave me the last few years of my life and I consider myself already lucky.
We all day, some faster than others but we do die and if you can be pain free for a few more years that would be great so leave the drug that saved my life alone.
I will fight you on this all the way to the supreme courts if I have to and I have an army of patience who feel the same way. The drug got put on a 2 week hold and we are all suffering.
Ask your, What would you do if your wife or child were screaming in pain all day? You would go look for the best drug that would help them continue a normal life and that drug is Duragesic.

You will just create more people to search for illegal drugs. By the time I'm done writing everyone will hate you and the way you see life.
You can't just try to remove something without doing real research.
Now, making the company look at their production line is completely great and I'm glad that these families won but don't turn this into a crusade please.

Just like anything else, if they are abused people will die due to their dumb actions. Most of the deaths are due to stupid people doing dumb things. Duragesic is a safe medication if it used per the instructions. And most importantly most doctors will not prescribe the heavy duty meds for moderate to serious pain in pill form , because there are so many dumb people out their that mess it up for the people that need these meds for serious issues! Then there are the frivolous lawyers out there that sue for the dumbest stuff too. Which is a big part of our out of control healthcare . Those attorneys should be tossed in prison and the keys melted down-they are a bunch of losers and deserve to go up the river with Buba!
Bottom line if people are smart about use of meds, Dusgesic is a blessing to many people need them to live a good quality of life.
