McKinney Man Dies in Trench Collapse

Denise Hickey, spokeswoman with the North Texas Municipal Water District, said a main died while working on a McKinney wastewater pipeline project.

McKinney’s Assistant Fire Chief Frank Roma indicated that the worker who died worked for Davis Excavation.  The trench collapse occurred earlier today near Airport Road south of U.S. Highway 380.  Chief Roma said one man was killed and another injured and that both men were transported to the Medical Center of McKinney.  Fortunately, one of the men's injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

McKinney fire and police personnel responded to the scene, as did the city's code and engineering departments. The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration was also on hand to investigate.

Trench collapses are often deadly.  Construction companies need to take extra precaution when sending their workers into trenches to do pipeline work.
