Denture Creams Cause Neurological Problems
GlaxoSmithKline is in the news again. Glaxo makes and markets Super Poligrip Original, Ultra Fresh, and Extra Care denture cream products. Unfortunately, Super Poligrip, Ultra Fresh, and Extra Care denture cream products contain zinc. For years lawsuits have alleged that zinc in the products causes severe neurological problems. Some of the neurological problems were severe enough to cripple people.
Glaxo decided to stop making and marketing Super Poligrip, Ultra Fresh, and Extra Care on the heels of hundreds of lawsuits poised to go to trial, alleging that Poligrip caused nerve damage and paralysis. As many as 30 million Americans wear dentures and use denture cream products like Poligrip. Was this change of heart an admission by Glaxo that its products caused harm? Perhaps. We’ll see how the litigation turns out. If the plaintiffs are right, Proctor & Gamble will have to consider making some changes to its popular denture cream product, Fixodent.
